The Exploitative Nature of Gig Economy on Lower-Skilled Workers (Research Paper Sample)

Instructions:

It is clear from Liam's evidence that the company employs this technique to transfer potential losses to its employees. Then, their families, communities, and socia insurance institutions take on this personal risk. The utilisation of short-term contracts, adjustable compensation, flexible scheduling, a variable number of working hours, and decreased insurance coverage are just a few of the risk-transfer strategies that these businesses can employ. Since their salary does not make up for these risks, this has negative repercussions on the workers. Instead, because of the imbalance of power, this results i further exploitation. Additionally, it causes the worker's planning agency to decline, which affects their capacity to live a fulfilling life on their own. Regulation is a weapon that can be used to guarantee businesses do not abuse lower-skilled individuals in their particular industries in order to minimise these exploitative practices.

1 Liam Gallagher’s Testimony
Despite the desire to present a lean and youthful appearance to my family, co-workers, and friends, I feel that at the age of 40, my professional experiences have negatively impacted my personal work motivations. I did work as a day worker in the construction sector before the financial crisis of 2008, which enabled me to get my first mortgage. But the financial crisis occurred, and the world banking crisis claimed my mortgage. My job was ultimately lost as a result, and I was left working casual jobs like plumbing and gardening to support myself. I had to move into rental housing in Blackpool after losing my home.
I still want to escape my debt situation and realise my aspiration of property ownership. Despite my severe financial circumstances, I found pride in the fact that I am not on state benefits. I was successful in getting a delivery driver employment interview. The manager of the active parcel department outlined the rules of the company's "independent contractor" agreement for drivers as the guaranteed way to achieve monetary freedom and an endless supply of income. I was to work whenever I am available, and the more available I am, the more money I make. I was ready to put in the long hours of effort necessary to control my own fate and better my financial status.
I persuaded my wife that trading our family van would be suitable so that I could purchase a van for my new career. The firm had an option of renting their van at GBP 65 per month, but it was too expensive in the long run. My wife, a social worker, frequently utilised it for her busy work tasks, so this was a difficult decision. She was frequently concerned about the inconvenience the loss of a car posed to her capacity to be on schedule for her patients, particularly in emergency situations, which caused trouble in our relationship. The selling of the automobile forced her to take public transportation to meet her patients.
I spent about GBP 1000 on a blue VW Crafter van without windows. I received GBP 850 from the trade of the family automobile but had to borrow GBP 150. As a result, I accrued more debt. I discovered on my first day that the work was much more laborious than I had anticipated because of all the rules and procedures I had to follow when I filled out the deliveries for a 12-hour shift. The payment was often in terms of fees for every successful delivery and not salary. I also learned that the items had to have been delivered in just an hour of said scheduled time in order to avoid any fines that could lower my pay.
