An Analysis of Some of the Key Forces Which Shape the HR Agenda
The Human resource is an important department in any organization across the world. The human resource is important as it helps in the overseeing of the operations that are conducted by a specific organization. The main operations that are overseen and controlled by this particular department is those that deal with the relationship between the employers and the employees. This is also the department that also ensures that all the labour laws are followed to the latter by the organization, communicating with the executive leadership and compensating, securing, recruiting and training all the workers. The human resource manager is expected to have a wide range of knowledge in numerous fields. A study of the Office Outlet Horsham company depicts that there are numerous key forces that shape the Human resource agenda. These forces include:
Competition
Competition is one of the forces that impact all the agenda of the Human resource in this particular organization. Competition is an external force that is brought about by other firms that are in the same industry. For instance, Office Outlet Horsham faces a lot of competition from Office Outlet Eastbourne and that affects the activities of the human resource department. To some extent, the competition that is provided by Office Outlet Eastbourne affects the ability of the firm to even recruit workers and members of staff that are qualified. In some cases, the human resource manager and his team are required to attend several meetings and job fairs so that they can promote the firm. Finally, competition tends to influence the HR office to come up with programs and policies that can help retain fundamental members of stuff.
Economic conditions
Economic conditions of different nations also affect the functioning of the human resource department in an organization. Office Outlet Horsham has different branches in the United Kingdom. The economy of this nation is likely able to affect the way Office Outlet Horsham human resource department is able to complete different tasks. The economy of any nation is likely going to affect how workers are hired or how they are fired. The level of expertise for the members of the staff is also affected by the economy of a particular nation as capital and monetary incentives may lack or may be there to hire highly skilled members of staff (Wright and McMahan, 1992. P. 295-320). Other economic factors such as Brexit could also lead to human resource department firing several workers.
Technological advancements
This is another external factor that affects the agenda and operations of the human resource department of the Office Outlet Horsham. Basically, technological advancements are always affecting the patterns through which people are hired at the Office Outlet Horsham. The latter also affects how training and evaluation sessions are conducted in the firm. For example, when a new brand or marketing channel is brought in, the HR is prompted to organize training sessions for the workers who are related to that particular section. Bring in new technology especially in the Information and Communication department will always require the HR to evaluate recruit new employees and members of the staff who can manage to work in that particular department.
Government and political forces
These are types of forces that cannot be overlooking as they affect the agenda of the human resource department at the Office Outlet Horsham company. The government is always releasing new employment compliance standards and these laws can affect the operations of the human resource department. The governments of The United Kingdom will always pressure the human resource departments to always operate with the law. The government influences the processes of recruitment, hiring and training, termination and compensation (Boxall and Purcell 2011). On the other hand, the politics of a nation could also affect the processes of hiring and training and evaluation. During the political periods when there are elections or just after the elections, the HR is supposed to be very vigorous as it trains the workers to fully understand and respect the political views of others.
A well trained human resource will always ensure that he or she is ready to face any particular force that comes in the way. He or she should be a person who is able to adapt and one who is always ready to combat any challenges. On the other hand, the HR manager and his team are always supposed to work hand-in-hand with the other heads of department and also the board of governors so that they can efficiently share any forces that could affect the operations of the organization (Huselid 1995, P. 635-672). Each of the discussed factors could affect the models of the HR function, insights, HR strategies, and solutions to support business ethics, accountability, and business performance among others.
SWOT, PESTLE, Porter’s 5 Forces
SWOT analysis
According to Ommani (2011, P. 9948) “Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis indicates a framework for helping the researchers or planners to identify and prioritize the business goals, and to further identify the strategies of achieving them. SWOT analysis is a technique used to analyse the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of businesses…”. It is therefore a tool that is very important in any organization that wants to be successful. It is also used by the Office Outlet Horsham so that it can decide its way forward in its operations and activities of selling office equipment and supplies and stationary.
PESTLE analysis
According to Professional Academy (2018), “A PESTLE analysis is a framework or tool used by marketers to analyse and monitor the macro-environmental (external marketing environment) factors that have an impact on an organisation. The result of which is used to identify threats and weaknesses which is used in a SWOT analysis.” It looks at the political, environmental, social, technological, legal and environmental factors that are likely able to affect the functioning of an organization. Some people refer to it as the PESTEL analysis. It is also seen as an imperative tool that can be used by an organization as it tries to implement new projects. It would be used by Office Outlet Horsham when its on the verge of opening a new branch in foreign nations or regions.
Porter Five Forces
Porter is one of the most popular people who have played a big role in the marketing strategies and development of theories that explain ways of gaining competitive advantage in firms. The five forces are important as they shape the competitive landscape of an organization. Apparently, they are used by organizations and institutions that want to gain competitive advantage in a particular industry. In the understanding of these five forces. Several things have to be understood with regard to strategy and its integration in an organization. Strategy is the incentive that makes it easy for an organization to outperform its rivals and still manage to maintain the difference Porter 2008, P. 9.
The five forces that were discussed my Porter included the threat of potential entrants or new entrants, the threat of substitute products, the bargaining power of the buyers, the bargaining power of the suppliers and the rivalry or competition between the existing firms. In this case, the competition and rivalry between Office Outlet Horsham and other firms appears to be one that bring in a lot of pressure to the firm. The bargaining power of buyers and suppliers do not really pressure the management of Office Outlet Horsham. However, the threat of new entrants and the threat of substitute products appears to be pressuring the firms to some extent. From the above, explanations it is quite clear that the analysis of Office Outlet Horsham can be done best by using the Porter’s Five Forces framework.
Assess A Range of Different Factors Which Impact an Organisation’s Business and Its HR Function
External Factors: Pestle analysis
Politics.
These are the external factors that determine how the Governmental bodies in the UK influence the economy of the office outlet industry. The taxes that are imposed by the nation are likely to influence different revenue generating structures in the organization, the hiring process and the salaries that are paid to the members of staff. Office Outlet Horsham is in an industry that can be directly affected by this factor. Apparently, the political structure of the UK paly a great role in the HR strategies.
Economics
As discussed earlier the economic state of a nation tends to affect the strategies and policies that are developed by an organization. Brexit is considered as an economic entity that happened in 2017 in the Great Britain. It is considered as a process through which the nation is leaving the European union. The European union was to some extent improving the imports and exports that leave Britain. So if it’s not there the harmony between European nations ceased and that has been affecting numerous firms. The economic state of the nation after Brexit even made some firms to fall and in others the HR functions changed drastically especially in terms of hiring and manpower.
Social factors
This is an eternal factor that affects the human resource department directly. Britain is a nation in which there are numerous immigrants that move in. most of these people do not understand English fully. So in most cases they will fail to understand the contract papers that are presented to them when they are being hired. Others do not fully understand the working rights in the firm and others fail to even understand the Memos and notices that are ...
