The Effects of Music in Study
Introduction:
In many cases, it is very common seeing students listening to soft music while they study or work on their homework. Music helps to relieve the emotional effects that come as a result of anxiety or stress when involved in a multifaceted cognitive processing, like working on an assignment, writing or reading (Wang, Kulkarni, Dolev, and Kain, 2002). This habit is prevalent that it would be helpful for college students to appreciate the role of music in improving their cognitive performance. Many researchers have taken time to study the impacts of music on performance and prove that indeed music plays a huge role in improving mental performance though some critiques argue against the published facts. Therefore, it is good to have a study on the effects of the different types of music on performance. Moreover, this is a suitable topic since a few studies have been undertaken on the interaction between the volume and intensity of music played and its impacts on cognitive processing. Therefore, this paper is going to address the effects of listening to the various genre of music at the different volume on cognitive performance.
Rationale:
We have specially chosen to work on this topic since it directly addresses facts that can be easily be ascertained amongst ourselves. This study is important since it will help in discussing reasons for music enhancing mental performance and alienating unnecessary anxiety and stress amongst scholars (Wang, Kulkarni, Dolev, and Kain, 2002). Specifically, the topic is significant to us as it teaches us on the best habits while working on our academic work as well as to the general public who want to enhance cognitive performance in their activities (Szentgyorgyi, 2015). This topic is interesting as it eases the long process of finding facts since it needs us to get finding amongst ourselves and colleagues as compared to other issues that are so demanding in finding facts. The fact that this problem tries to ascertain the role of music in a study, every member is united so that we come up with the best finding that will reflect proofs.
Prior Knowledge:
After having a lengthy discussion with our group, we realized that each had a diverse view of the effects of music in the study. One was arguing that during his study time, he rarely reads minus having loud music playing. He went ahead to say that when the environment is so silent, he can never concentrate on his work as the mind diverges to other things thus driving him away from studying. Many group members concurred that having soft music playing in the background is ideal for working smart and for a longer time as one grasps every concept (Burkholder, and Grout, 2014). They said that it is real music alleviates emotional anxieties and stress which hinders the mind to focus on a particular task. From our discussions, I came to realize that indeed it was not only me who has to put on music as I work on my assignments. Music helps to enhance performance as it gives room for one to concentrate on a particular since it reduces stress.
Research Design:
From the above discussion, it is evident that soft music enhances cognitive performance among students. Many scholars have come out with proves that students who listened to music more frequent while working on their coursework attained good grades (Hallam, 2010). More especially when faced with challenging issues like stress and anxiety, music is the best medicine that will help one execute work to the level best. For any student who has had difficulties in accomplishing class work, it is high time you discover this trick, and you will never regret. In fact, you will read, write for a significantly longer time without noticing. Thus, this is the reason our research is elaborate the role of music effects in the study. And, as we realize the effects are more helpful to scholars as compared to the harm as critiques may argue.
Proposed Research Outcome:
At the end of our research, we would like to have gained diverse views on effects of music while studying. In specific the study will give us a platform to collect differen...
