Nokia Organizational Structure in India
The difference in the organizational structure adopted by Nokia in India and Finland illustrates the impact of culture on the operations of the company in multinational markets. In relation to Hofstede’s cultural dimension of organizational structure, India adopts a higher power distance that characterizes the structure as highly hierarchical (Hofstede, Hofstede & Minkov, 2010). The role of the manager in the Indian Nokia organization depicts the expertise associated with this position as illustrated in chart 1. This means that the Indian culture paints a picture of individualism in relation to the hierarchical order of the organization. Therefore, individual employees look after themselves, and the structure employs universal values for people within specific departments.
Nokia Organizational Structure in Finland
In contrast to the organizational structure adopted by Nokia in India, the Finnish structure is characterized by the strong European culture of low power distance. The organization has a flat organizational structure that is fluid. Chart 2 depicts an organization adopts a hierarchy that is not as dominant as that in India. The supervisors and the employees receive equal consideration, hence facilitating the flexibility of the organization (Hofstede, Hofstede & Minkov, 2010). In addition, the organization routes for collectivism and particularism. The top management looks after the employees by implementing a group census mechanism of issuing direction and solution to organizational problems.
