FISMA or COBIT ensures risk Management practices is effective in the Federal sector thanks to its numerous capabilities. The platform defines the framework which guides the use of information system across all the federal government agencies including the legislature and the executive.
FISMA has a way of categorizing information systems in accordance with the level of the risk. The ratings could range from high to low across various risk categories such as confidentiality, integrity, and accountability. There is a clear guideline that has been set to facilitate risk categorization (Wilshusen 5). FISMA requires that all federal agencies have inventory information’s system in place. This ensures that there is no waste or misuse of the inventory. The government can therefore always ensure that it maintains optimal inventory levels across all departments. Depending on the risk levels, necessary measures are implemented to avoid any loss or inefficiency that might arise as a result of the risk occurring.
