Memory
Rollercoaster
(Maral Pourarfaie, 2017, 5 min)
In a short movie called Rollercoaster the director tries to capture the worldview and experience of a person with mental issues. In fact, the memories are formed according to the experience that person has. However, a life of an individual with mental issues is completely different and it could not be compared to the ordinary life. The movie perfectly shows how a person experiences the life. Even though the character sees the real world and comprehends it, still there are brief images of the past memories, when she was having fun. In other words, her memories combine with the real life and mentally she exists in two dimensions. Therefore, her life is devastating, as she could not concentrate on anything, the memories distract her from the real life, while the real life is disrupted with the images of the memories, when she was happy or when she does not have the severe symptoms, as she has in the movie. In other words, there is a constant struggle for this woman to survive another day, as she could not concentrate on anything.
Keeping in Touch
(Britany Gunderson, 2017, 3 min)
This movie explores self-isolation and loneliness of the character. In fact, the female character for some reasons is afraid of going outside of her house. Her life is constantly stable; however, this stability is a negative aspect that could not be accepted as ordinary life. She does not even want to look through the windows on the streets. Due to the fact that her life is slow and there are not any new events or unexpected issues, the director uses the stable shots in order to create a depressing and in some way boring environment. However, each day for the character is the same as the previous one. The next day would be similar to this one. In other words, there is not an exit from this situation and there are not any memories in her head regarding her life. In case, if people are afraid to live and to act, there would not be anything that they would live after their demise. Furthermore, these people do not have any memories or any points in their lives, which they could remember with the smile on their faces. Only regrets.
It Feels Like ______
(Gabriella Cisneros, 2016, 3 min)
The director of this movie tries to show what is the ordinary day of almost any human being. There is a sequence of domestic events and the domestic activity of the character. At the same time, it is possible to presume that the routine is also part of the memories, as it creates an agenda where a person could see the flow of the life. For example, when something extraordinary happens the person immediately catches that and preserves in the memory, as it is something that does not fit into the frames of the ordinary. In other words, the stability is good but it is not memorable at all. The routine also does not have a personalized side of its presence. However, the unusual things or events are easily remembered because it is different and something fresh. Even though these events might be negative, still individual memorizes it and preserves this memory as something precious. Additionally, the routine also helps to learn how to values these moments.
You're Not Funny
(Dan Stewart, 2016, 9 min)
