How academics and athletics benefit one another
A combination of athletics and academics in schools and other institutions of higher learning is one of the issues that has brought about differing opinions. The proponents of the idea believe that athletics stimulates students and therefore they increase their ability to perform well in their various courses(Wolverton 28). On the other hand, those in opposition to the idea have a belief that athletics and other co-curricular activities consume a lot of time for the learners. The time would have been used in perfecting their academic skills. The action, therefore, leads to poor performance among the learners. 
A student-athlete refers to the participant in an organized competitive sport usually sponsored by the educational institution where the student is enrolled. Student-athletes are usually full-time students and at the same time engage in athletic activities in school. In some colleges and schools, students have been offered athletic scholarships to ensure that as they continue with their academics, they engage in athletic activities with most of their needs being catered for by the school.
