Introduction
Cultural production is one of the most delicate aspects of any arts or study since the facts have to be as accurate as possible (Learnnc.org). Any misrepresented facts will mean that the entire production loses meaning as it skews the true nature of a certain culture, its worth and the heritage that goes with it. In the representation of the Quinceaneras, there are some facts that should come out very clearly to give their right impression about this Spanish culture, which marks the transition of fifteen year old girls to their adulthood (Learnnc.org).
Quinceaneras
The Quinceaneras, is a traditional celebration among the Spanish people that celebrates the transition of fifteen-year old girls to their adulthood. It is a culture that dates back several centuries among the Latinos, where the boys and the girls would celebrate their rites of passage. According to the Latino legends and stories passed along for generations, the girls at the age would be trained on how to be women in marriage life (Hallmark.com). As such, they would be taught on all the necessary skills required to take care of the husbands, children, homes and their role in the community. Although the tradition has been widely practiced among the Spanish fraternity, it has also spread to other cultures. The quinceaneras tradition is thought to have originated among the Aztecs’ communities dating centuries back.
As part of the cultural production, it is important to reflect the important processes of the celebrations (Learnnc.org). One of the activities involved the community thanking the gods for the future wives and mothers to their children, while the girls would in turn vow to be of service to the community. This would then be followed up with a personalized church service that involved the girls affirming their faith and pledging to be good Christian wives and mothers (Hallmark.com).
There have been some changes to the traditions depending on the community adaptations; however, the main elements are still present among most of the communities.
