How Japanese Architecture Absorbs Foreign Culture from Ancient Times to the Present
Introduction
The world is advancing at a rapid rate resulting in the loss of identity and culture in the process. The result is that individuals and nations are forced to adopt a design that reflects their global distinctiveness. Kubota points out that the trend is happening across various countries where nations prefer submitting to the pattern of global iterations while losing their cultural and national identity in the process (3). Even though global trends are increasingly influencing the Japanese architecture, some of its aspects have stood the test of time. Buddhist, Chinese, and Western architecture affect Japan’s structural identity. Mainly, the transference of architectural styles and knowledge of technology is adjusting Japan outward appearance, including their core concept of culture and national identity. The adoption of new technology and foreign ideas has considerably transformed Japanese architecture due to the infusion of materials and forms into its existing designs.
