CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Introduction
There has been a revolution in the business world. This is as far as technological input into business operations is concerned. Communication technology has changed the way in which business communicate with other businesses and consumers. This technology has been such that communication is becoming increasingly faster. Geographical distance as a factor determining the quality of interaction between businesses and consumers is slowly losing its potency. The different parties to business interaction have found it easier to communicate, as a result, of the advent of electronic communication. Information has become increasingly easier to access given that the traditional means of information storing has been phased out. The digital storing of information has made it easily accessible to the business and subsequently the different parties with whom the business associates.
Such is the impact of communication technology in the different sectors. This is best exemplified by the healthcare sector. Using the different communication technologies that are available, it has become easier to merge patient records especially between different healthcare facilities. The patient records can be sent to different locations thus enhancing the quality of healthcare available to the patient. In a way, it has enabled professionals to improve their capacities while simultaneously enhancing the mediocrity of the mediocre workers. Given that it is up to a particular employee to maintain professional discipline, employers find it hard to ensure that their employees do not slack off while on duty.
Electronic communications have been popularized largely because of their convenience factor. These technologies have made communication between business and people both faster and easier. This is in addition to their increased availability. Contemporary electronic communication has widened the manner in which communication can be undertaken. This is especially with reference to visual communication. The internet has to be credited for making such communications possible. Such communications have become almost instantaneous. Increase in broadband width has enhanced the potential of electronic communication. As such, the use of electronic communication tools has made communication increasingly convenient.
It is clear that electronic communication forms a core factor in the daily busine...
