1. Introduction
1.1 Project Background
With the passage of time, management problems are constantly increasing because of globalization. This research highlights an important Human Resource issue that is, "Employee Commitment”. It has been observed that the level of employee commitment is directly affected by the actions, wisdom and behavior of manager as manager play an important role in motivating employees which ultimately results in the increased commitment and involvement level of employees. Thus, Manager Integrity is an independent variable whereas, Employee Commitment is a dependent variable. Integrity of manager is an interpersonal skill and an outstanding quality that significantly impacts on the involvement of employees in their work and organization.
Manager integrity makes a trust-based relationship between a manager and subordinates that propels them to follow the manager’s words and orders. However, if manager fails to build a trustworthy relationship; employees do not follow the manager’s orders and makes them dissatisfied. Employees seek for other opportunities and their intentions to quit start rising. This research project has taken health sector into consideration where the commitment and involvement of employees affects the performance of organization. Besides this, health sector is taken because of its growing importance among researchers, scholars and practitioners. It is a growing sector in UK providing healthcare services to people. This research has linked the UK health sector with manager integrity and employee commitment; previously, this sector has been linked with various business areas.
Dawson (2009) observed a declining employee turnover rate from 36% in 2006 to 31% in 2007 because of the better management and HR operations at NHS. NHS is continuously working on improving HR policies for wellbeing of employees. Here, managers strictly follow the ethical principles and standards. For promoting honesty and integrity, managers at NHS maintain secrecy, openness, and transparency. Supervisors support employees by giving them directions and helping them in every step; additionally, giving them empowerment to make their own decisions. A trustable working environment makes the employee performance better that boosts the organizational performance also. It gives rewards to employees which raise their satisfaction level, thus delivering paramount healthcare services to patients which make NHS one of the leading healthcare centers in UK (NHS, 2011).
1.2 Research Aim and Objectives
The aim of this project is to identify the effect of manager integrity on the commitment of employees; whether the effect is direct or indirect. With respect to this aim, research objectives are devised stated below:
* To identify the influence of manager integrity on the level of commitment of employees at NHS
* To analyze the impact of employee commitment on the performance of NHS
* To understand how manager’s wrong actions lead to employee dissatisfaction
1.3 Research Questions
Following are the research objectives structured for this project:
Research Question 1: How integrity of manager is affecting on the employees commitment and how their work is affected by actions of managers?
This research question is the underlying base of this research which explores how manager openness is making the employees productive and competent. This question collects the vast data from employees working at NHS that how they perceive actions of their managers and how NHS is providing a supportive and motivating working environment. This question discovers the attachment of employees with NHS, vitality of manager integrity, issues rising because of manager behavior and positive results occurring.
Research Question 2: How commitment of employees is affecting on the performance of NHS and how low commitment level and detachment can adversely hit the NHS performance?
This research question explores the relationship between performance of organization and commitment of employees. This question scrutinizes that how satisfied employees invest their inputs and deliver superior and quality outcome in terms of service. This research evaluates the negative side of commitment also that deteriorates the performance of organization.

1.6 Research Design
1.6.1 Research Method
This project used quantitative research design to conduct the study and finding the impact of manager integrity on the commitment of employees at NHS. The data collected through using quantitative research tools is analyzed using quantitative analysis software and interpretations leads to final results. This method helps in obtaining substantial data that is updated and current (Taylor, 2005).
1.6.2 Primary and Secondary Data
Both primary and secondary data is used in this research project. Primary data is collected form the employees working at NHS in different departments through a quantitative research tool that is, "Questionnaire”. Thomas (2003) stated that this data requires time as distribution of questionnaires, filing out and then returning back of questionnaires requires time. Thus, the primary source of data is employees at NHS. They shared new information that is specific to research topic. The questionnaire contains reflective statements which pushes participants to share their genuine experiences. This research carries secondary source of information also retrieved from online research journals and website of NHS. This information is not current but has theoretical implication. Both these informative sources make the project strong.
1.6.3 Sampling Technique and Sample Size
This research project employed convenience sampling technique (non-probability). Vanderstoep and Johnson (2008) recognized it as a most common technique used when time is short. It is a cheap technique as it does not require any additional cost other than questionnaire printing. This is a small class project; therefore, this technique is viable. The approachable employees are approached who were readily available at NHS. A sample size of "40" is selected due to the small time frame.
1.6.4 Statistical Analysis
This research employed inferential statistics to analyze the data. Correlation and Regression Tests are used to determine the direction of relationship and intensity of impact of manager integrity at employee commitment. In addition to this, descriptive analysis is also used. Frequency distribution gives the central tendency of data. All results are represented in graphical and tabular form.
1.7 Ethical Considerations
This project has focused on ethical concerns also. The employees at NHS are first educated about the research topic and its background. The employees were not pushed to participate in this study, it was a free consent of employees whether to participate or not. Moreover, researcher has considered confidentiality concern also as most of the employees have a fear...
