The Gettysburg address analysis
President Lincoln, in his speech on November 19, 1863, delivered about a single page of content that I find entirely captivating as I read it again and again. He communicates a lot of message in this short address. This period was a time when the civil war had become a heavy burden to bear as the causalities were not only high but also the economic cost of the war had started to be felt by locals. Gettysburg being part of this war, Lincoln wanted and was hoping to reintegrate the country by not only tackling slavery but also using military tactics. Thus, what was the deep meaning of this address?
Starting with what I deemed to be most important in the speech, I managed to single out two facts that president Lincoln was putting across to the addressees. The first can be found in the first paragraph, first sentence. “Fourscore and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth, on this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” ("The Gettysburg Address", 2019) Here Lincoln is addressing a massive menace at this time; slavery and slave trade. He believed that regardless of differences in religious beliefs, the color of skin, sex, wealth, and even class, we are all equal. He lay the foundation of the today equality that we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America.
