For this task you will need to read Chapter 3 of Jabri, M. (2012) Managing Organizational Change. Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan. This exercise is designed to enable you to consider your own experience as a change agent using academic theory.
Also, we would expect you to refer to the professional standards in change management, as discussed in week 6 in the lecture (see ACMP (2014) Standard for change management) and / or the report / guidance issued by the CIPD (see week 9).
In every answer we expect to see you justifying your choices and suggested actions and offer theoretical underpinning for your choices / suggestions through referring to models / theories / frameworks discussed in the core reading materials and in lectures / seminars. Telling a story of change as a company leader
Read the case study Kitchenware company on Moodle. You are Dennis, and you need to talk to all staff at a staff assembly outlining the need for change and how the company should develop. You can choose the point in time place in the company development this meeting takes place.
Create a 450-word story of change.
We would like you to spend approximately another 300 words critically discussing the relevance of story telling for change management and critically evaluate this story in the context of story telling (as discussed in class and in the academic literature) and justify your choices made .

Change management and CSR are strategic processes in small and large company that are rarely linked to each other. However, introducing CSR to a company in an organised strategic manner is a form of change management, often named in the context of transformational change.
For a company of your choice of one of the suggested case study companies of the course, imagine you are put in charge of introducing CSR to the company as a whole. Keep it simple! What CSR activities would you suggest and for what purpose? Choose one of the following purposes:
• CSR to reach out to new target customers to improve sales
• CSR to engage with the local communities and develop them.
Ensure that the one chosen purpose is well reflected in your answer in everything you write. Then critically discuss and suggest a change management plan to introduce CSR.

You are an external consultant brought into the x company to start them off on their social media marketing strategy. They have never used social media for the business before. Company X has 48 employees, of which one staff member deals with marketing, supported by an apprentice.
• What would you do first? Why?

In responding to globalization, businesses tend to adopt new strategies that influence how they carry out business operations in the macro-environment in which they operate in. This is usually influenced by increased competitive rivalry where by organizations have to keep up with the changes that are going on in the environment to ensure they survive in such an environment. Allen and Craig (2016) point out those managers are faced with dynamism in the business environment that forces them to take up various strategic options and deliver change within the organization so as to gain an edge over their competitors.
Change is usually resulted by dynamic factors or drivers both within the company’s environment and the environment that is external to the organization also referred to as the macro-environment (Jabri, 2012). External drivers to change are therefore those factors that are in the company’s macro-environment that influence the change in the company’s strategies, operations, businesses and systems. They are the factors that reside outside the company which they are not able to control that affect or influence the company’s performance and sustainability in the long-term. Managers take up the risk of being run out of business when they chose to ignore the external drivers to change. Neuss (2018) proposes that the managerial team should engage in practices that regularly monitor the external environment for drivers of change which in most cases have huge effects on the company’s growth and even going concern status. The internal drivers to change are usually brought about by factors within the organization that are under the control of the management that would result into change taking place. These factors include systems, processes, culture, people, mission and the leadership that may result to change within the company that may either be beneficial, in providing an edge over the company’s competitors, or detrimental usually evidenced by poor business performance (Zao, Chen and Xiong, 2016).
Ecommerce as an example of change has different internal and external drivers that would lead to its adoption as a new distribution and sales channel for retail business. Amongst the internal drivers there is the moral of the employees where by company recognizes that through the adoption of technological advancements, this will lead to efficiencies in how work is done within the organization (Jabri, 2012).
This however has to be communicated effectively as employees may see new technological advancements being adopted within the company as a way of replacing some of the employees within the organization. If the management communicate effectively as to how the ecommerce within the retail company will redesign jobs and even create new opportunities, this will go a long way in motivating them. Consumer service or delivery is also another internal driver that led to the adoption of ecommerce. The management of the company recognizes that by using ecommerce they will have an edge over their competitors as suggested by Caudill (2010). Ecommerce can aid the organization in increasing loyalty to the company and also it can be beneficial in attracting new consumer segments.
External drivers leading to the adaptation of ecommerce within the retail business may probably originate from competitive rivalry and pressure. The retail company will be pressured to adopt ecommerce as their competitors may have adopted the same which may have provided cost benefits to them. In addition to this, the adaptation of ecommerce may actually be a strategy to gain competitive advantage and retain their dominance in the industry in which they operate in. Another external driver is the consumer needs and preferences which are always changing and nowadays they are changing in relation to technological advancements as described by Kossecki (2004). This means that the management of the organization also needs to regularly monitor the environment and obtain feedback from consumers so that they can carry out practices that will retain their consumers to them considering nowadays the switching costs from one organization to the other are quite low. Regulation from the government and other regulating bodies within the retail industry may also lead to the company opting for ecommerce as an option especially where the use of particular systems is required by these bodies. The company will therefore have to comply with the legal requirements of such bodies so that they are able to continue carrying out operations freely within their industry. Fullarton (2017) proposes that the tax implications of adopting ecommerce may also be lower in comparison to the use of traditional business models. Business owners can claim various deductions as a result of their operations through ecommerce and this may drive the organization in adopting such change.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is described by Chao and Pu (2017) as the obligation that the company has to its wide range of its stakeholders from the activities that it engages in with the main objective of delivering sustainability and responsible practices in the social, economic and environmental areas that they operate in. As organizations benefit from the support that they obtain from the society or community, it is therefore prudent that they also provide an element of support to the society or the community around them especially because the company’s activities impact the society in one way or another. As part of looking after their stakeholders, the organization has to ensure that their consumers, suppliers, local people, investors, shareholders and their employees are considered within the sustainable practices that they take up. From the above, businesses are therefore set up not only so that they can maximize the wealth of their shareholders but also so that they can provide value and contribute to the well-being of the society around them (Caner and Banu, 2015).
Havrylenko (2017) points out that in selecting and adapting CSR strategies within an organization, the management should consider that this as an example of change needs to be managed effectively to ensure its successful adoption especially by the company’s employees. Based on (……), the purpose of the CSR activities that will be proposed below would be so that they company can engage with the local communities and provide them with opportunities for development.One of the CSR strategies that as an organization I would suggest to engage is to invest in the education of the people within the local community. The company can do this by providing funds or scholarships through which community members and mainly the youth can benefit from education. This creates a generation of people who have necessary skills to develop their lives and eventually these individuals can actually be given internships or employment opportunities within the company. Educational grants as part of this initiative will also create a community where people know their rights and also can in turn contribute to developing the organization as well. Investment in education as a CSR initiative can also be done by providing education opportunities to the elderly, the less fortunate and the underprivileged in the society around them.
The company can also provide training workshops where people who do not have any form of employment are able to gain technical skills that will increase their attractiveness within the job market.
Another CSR activity that supports engagement and development of the local community is by engaging in charitable activities. These charitable activities may be those set up by the community members or ones that have been set up by the company itself. For example, the organization may spearhead cleaning up of the community around them with the main purpose of creating awareness of the importance of conserving the environment. Within the same context, the company may also come up with activities where they donate trees as part of afforestation to recognize and respond to the climatic effects brought about by emissions and pollution that has been caused by the organization (Kotzian, 2016). As part of environmental conservation, they can also create awareness within the community by educating the local people of the importance of protecting and conserving the environment. Through such forums, the local community is able to interact with the members of the organization as to how the company may apply green solutions from their operations and processes to the final goods that they provide consumers.
The company should also establish a foundation through which they can be providing donations to the society based on the most urgent needs of the society. These donations may include food stuffs, medical supplies, books, sanitary towels amongst other things. As they provide such donations they should visit their local neighbors as they pass on the donations they have. This is imperative in creating a lasting relationship between the organization and the stakeholders that they serve. It also enables the company to benefit from increased community support which goes a long way in increasing the company’s brand reputation through enhance public image as fronted by Seidler (2016).
With all the above CSR activities that the organization has been suggested to engage in, they should ensure that their primary focus is on genuinely supporting the local community as opposed to looking at the benefits that they can accrue by engaging with the members of the society.
