Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities are critical to the success of an organization. For this reason, the British Petroleum (BP) Corporation has developed effective plans to implement Clauses 5, 6, and 7 of ISO 26000. The ISO 26000, guidance on social responsibility, offers a compressive report on the best practices in social responsibilities for both private and public corporations (Lament, 2015). Notably, the policies are primarily meant for internal use and for external publication. The BP seeks to integrate its social responsibility throughout its internal activities by following the guidance provided in clause 7. First, the developed organization’s policies decree that employees are free to join the labor unions of their choice. Again, the management team will be communicating openly with the employees. Lament (2015) educates us that communication builds a positive workplace culture (Lament, 2015). Various steps will be taken to ensure a good relationship. For example, workers will be encouraged to be open and non-discriminative. The aim will be to create a good working rapport whilst reducing internal conflicts. The Clause 6 guides on core subjects related to social responsibility activities (Moratis & Cochius, 2011). Consequently, BP social activities are integrated into its broad objectives, organizational culture, and operations.
As a key strategy to contribute to sustainable development, the corporation has developed sustainable plans that suit the external parties. The Clause 5 enlightens organizations to recognize social responsibilities and engage its stakeholders and the society (Moratis & Cochius, 2011). In the lieu of this, BP has given preference to the surrounding community in many job positions so long as they merit the requisite qualification for the particular positions.
