Integration of Social Studies with Science Units
Over the past few years, there has been a continuous outcry in regards to the inadequate attention given to the learning and teaching of both social studies and science education. Several teachers have reported that they don’t have sufficient time for teaching social studies. Thus, it is assumed to be a lesser subject. Many research works have also shown that social studies is seen by many learners as a second-rank subject, among the readers. However, instruction of social studies in the elementary years is a crucial foundation for learners to become responsible and active members in an interdependent, diverse, and democratic society. It is improbable that instructors in middle and senior schools will succeed in preparing students if the social studies subject is neglected. During the voyage, the Pilgrims made use of their knowledge in weather. For instance, their decision to settle at the Massachusetts' shore was directly dictated by the weather. At the moment the Mayflower ship was crossing the South-Eastern tip of Cape Cod, the waves and wind prompted the troop to make land-fall out of the eminent danger rather than proceeding to their early planned destination at the Harbor of the New York.
