The decision of whether to ban cigarette smoking completely has a divided opinion. Although the majority of the people would say yes to the ban, a number would reject the ban.
Cigarette smoking should be banned because it has been linked by studies to be injurious to not only the health of an individual but also to the close people. Illnesses related to cigarette smoking include mouth and lung cancer and heart diseases. Smoking cigarettes have caused many deaths more than of alcohol, AIDS, accidents, and illegal drugs combined. In China alone, 2,000 people die from smoking. Also, a cigarette contains nicotine that is addictive which makes a person highly irritable, depressed and violent. Furthermore, the smoke emitted from the cigarettes is harmful to the environment as well as contributing to global warming. Finally, governments are spending more money in treating its citizens of diseases linked to tobacco which would have been used for development.
Cigarette smoking, on the other hand, should not be banned. This is because it is a personal choice to smoke, and taking away that right is a violation of liberty.
