1 Design of a low noise Raman amplifier

This devise will consist of cladding, pumping mechanism that is integrated in to one mode fiber core (Agrawal, 2007). For this design the pumping mechanism will consist of a semiconductor disk laser. The design for the Raman amplifier is shown below.

The Raman fiber in the design is a 1.54 µm that is pumped by 1.52 µm semiconductor disk the gain was 20 dB through the wavelength with a variation of ap=50 µm2. that is achieved through co-propagation pumping mechanism CITATION Isl02 \l 1033 (Islam, 2002). The polarizer optimizes performance of the 0.2 db/km between the wavelengths.
2 Concept of noise.
The noise signal is pumped across the Raman Amplifier and the signal degrades by 3dB because of the linear polarization effect across the wavelength even in an ideal amplifier. This variation in gain explains the reason for the degradation and it explains the optical transmission impairment.
