Introduction
A story of Middle East politics can be narrated using very few words i.e. war, oil, internal as well as external interests, and border conflicts. For decades, the region has been unstable due to conflicts associated with religion and economic interests. The rising terrorist groups have made the situation to be volatile. For instance, Islamic State, as well as other small groups have made it impossible for the region to achieve its potential. Despite having immense wealth, a lot of resources is consumed while purchasing weapons rather than improving the infrastructure and other critical pillars of the economy. The external interests from countries that want to take advantage of the volatile situation to siphon fuel from the region have made it hard for the region to achieve the much-desired peace and stability. Lack of cooperation between the countries in the region has even worsened the situation.
Women and children have been caught in the crossfire. The world is looking as they continue to suffer in the hands of the militants. The international bodies are not taking any action against leaders who fuel violence to gain political mileage (MacQueen, 2013). For decades, the war in the Middle East has mainly been funded by rich individuals who have a stake in the oil sector. Lack of political structures that can handle war-related cases has created room for human rights violations. Also, extreme religious laws have been contradicting with the law of the land, an aspect that has created a vacuum that is being occupied by militant groups such as ISIS.
Border conflicts have also contributed significantly to the current state of the region. For instance, the long-fought war between the Israel and Palestine has continued under the watch of human watch groups and international bodies such as the United Nations (Ismael, Ismael, & Perry, 2016). The silent on the side of these bodies has encouraged other people with a high influence in the region to fuel violence to succeed economically. The recent fallout of several Arab countries with Qatar is an indicator of a situation that is only likely to worsen if the necessary measures are not taken to cool the rising temperatures. The fact that there is mistrust between neighbors has made it very hard for leaders to sit together and deliberate on the best measures that can be taken to arrest the situation before it gets out of hand.
