Introduction
This report aims to present the definition of a community, the background of communities the perspectives of communities and expound on particular community as an example. In the modern world, there is adequate evidence to prove the existence of collaboration of members of the society in particular channels to achieve a set goal for the common good of the community. The social scope, which people live and their lifestyle can have significant impact positive or negative incidences within a population. Thus, the power of a collaborative society has been witnessed in action to achieve positive goals such as mitigating vices in society. Therefore, the community is defined as a fundamental entity build on the concept of initiating actions of engagement to achieve set targets by improving their efforts and work as pioneers of a particular development by employing appropriate strategies. However, a community can be viewed from a either a constricted or a broader perspective. In both views, the main concept is that involvement that is being a member. A person is free to become a member of a particular community by choice that is voluntary association by virtue of a person’s intrinsic characteristics, which are race, gender or ethnicity. Consequently, individuals may end being members of numerous communities at the same time. In essence, a person should be aware the complex involvements that will determine which people to work with in a targeted community.
Background
In sociological perspective, the concept of a community refers to a grouping of people associated by a common factor. The common factor could be the geographical location, common interests, traditions, experiences or values. In sociology a single definition of the term community is not possible since it made up from relations to some people whereas other people it totally a different thing or rather a matter of feelings towards a certain goal which they aim to achieve. Additionally to some people, community relation is a matter of an institution probably that which is based on a certain discipline (CDC et al, 2011).
Method
The data and information used for this report was retrieved online from community websites and journals. Thus, this information is subject to bias since the content on the website does not cover actual population that are associated to a particular community, but a fraction representation of the surveyed population target by a community. For instance, the World Health Organization is a global community and serves the world population, but its goals and objectives a set by a limited number of personnel. Consequently, the available information about the organization strategies and perception of various matters does not cover the entire world population but rather few representatives from every country. In addition, the community concepts addressed in this report was retrieved from CDC website and do not cover all theories and views of all acceptable theorists (CDC et al, 2012).
Findings
From my search on the CDC website, communities can be perceived to be systems made up of individuals who are members of specialized interests, activities and functions in a society. In other words, a community could be termed as a system of persons with distinct interrelationships. Each function performs specific boundary bound activities that meet the goals of the members and meant to benefit the target population. For instance, academic communities target student education, faith organizations feature spiritual and well being of people, the transport sector focus on facilitating movement of products and goods from one location to the other, economic communities aim entrepreneurship and employment whereas health communities target the treatment and prevention of pandemics and injuries. In essence these are just a few of the communities sectors that make up the entire community system. Concepts that define the entity of a community involve community engagement, which is a process of collaborative participation with groups of different people affiliated by interest of geographical proximity to address a similar matter that affects the well-being of the target population. In this paper, I will focus on the World Health Organization to serve as an example in pursuit of demonstrating the concept of a community. This community is global entity that focuses on the health of the world population by addressing various diseases and establishing treatment and prevention for pandemics (oxford journals et al, 2012).
This is an empowerment community that mobilizes other health organization at the grass-roots and other community-based institutions to act upon particular issues and providing necessary logistical know how to enable them to arrive at constructive decisions regarding critical issues encountered. Empowerment occurs at three distinct stages, the individual level, and the group the level and the community level. For instance, the World Health Organization gave insight on how to control and eradicate the small pox pandemic, this directive gave individuals health empowerment at the individual level since it was hindrance to self reliance for individuals who had contracted the infection. Consequently, these individuals contributed to the groups which they were members and lead to development of the community that is made of several groups, entities of the community at large. In reality, the chain of information flow from the World Health Organization to community based groups and institutions achieves dissemination of critical information in addressing health issues that empower people in taking preventive measures of diseases whose information has been provided (Richard et al, 2003).
The World Health Organization community employs the concept of capacity building in its endeavors to achieved it goals on health well being of its target population. This achieved from active participation in solving health related issues by effective contribution in establishing cures and prevention from through research on the subject of interest.
