The Effect of Violating Company Policy

A company policy is important because it defines the company’s goals and guides managers on how to fulfill the organization’s objectives. Ethically, Harmony’s actions are wrong as she should strictly follow the policies. A bank exists to provide services and make profits, which explains the strict policy meant to boost productivity. I believe it is the responsibility of the managers of the poorly- performing branches to achieve sale targets. If they fail to achieve the expectations, the company should close the branches as stated in the workplace policy. While Harmony means well for the employees about to lose their jobs, she acted unethically because a company should never overstate sales, profits, or losses. Exaggerating the sales gives the wrong idea that the company is doing well when the truth is that it is performing dismally (Moustaghfir et al 24). Therefore, harmony’s action is ethically and legally wrong because she is risking the company’s reputation.
Companies institute workplace policies to ensure transparency and streamline services. The company can fire Harmony for contravening the policy or sue her for a breach of contract. Besides, the action can create a false sense of the company doing well financially, when it is underperforming. Overstated sales not only inflate taxable income but can also be considered fraudulent and can land the company in trouble (Moustaghfir et al. 31). If fired, harmony can lose her job and reputation,
