ANALYSIS OF HOW SOVIET UNION MANAGED TO GOVERN SUCH AN EXPANSIVE SYSTEM
Soviet Union system was characterized by the CPSU (Communist Part of the Soviet Union), which was the only party that the constitution allowed (Waldron 20). According to Article eight of the Soviet constitution of 1924, the supreme organ of power was the Congress of Soviets. However, the Supreme Soviet of the Union replaced the Congress in the Soviet constitution of 1936, and worked as the only USSR legislative branch and highest state authority. The Soviet constitution of 1977 mandated the Supreme Soviet to handle all issues within the USSR jurisdiction (Waldron 25). These included the creation of state budget, new republic admission, new autonomous regions and autonomous republic creation as well as five-year plan approval for the economic and social development.
ECONOMIC, POLITICAL AND SOCIAL CHALLENGES FACED BY THE SOVIET UNION.
The Soviet Union had expanded to a large size until it became a difficult task to proceed with planning of state. The intricate and massive economy of soviet became too large for the state planners to manage (Hunter 40). With decline in the perception of the public on Soviet government because of blunders n politics, it is worth noting that, there was growth of nationalism within each and every individual republic hence resulting to ambitions for independence by republics like Belarus, Lithuania and Estonia (Waldron 32). Soviet Union also faced a challenge of political division amongst leaders and ethnic fragmentation. The Slav Nation or pride propaganda was used by the USSR to justify its creating of Slav state that was united.
HOW GOVERNANCE HAS EVOLVED IN POST SOVIET ERA.
Following the crumble of the Soviet Union, linguistically, culturally and ethnically diverse successor states were left behind. Due to trials by these states to form governing institutions and domestic policies, there was often conflict in the interests of their various population.
