Jihad The word jihad has been mis translated to mean "holy war”, many have suggested that jihad means using force to enforce Islam to non believers but from the Quran it indicates as "jihad" does not mean countering your enemies using military force or fighting against your enemy but it indicates that one has to safeguard the religion against the devil, that is why most refer to jihad as the holy war. Sunnis are the majority of Muslims who mainly reside in the Middle East especially in the Jordan and Saudi Arabia. While the Shia constitute just slightly over 10% and are estimated to be around 154 -200 million in numbers. Abbasid caliphate They were a monarchy that controlled the caliphs and they accepted the non- Arabs as governors.
