Learning Resources to the Niagara Movement and Women's Suffrage

Niagara movement was a group of 29 business owners formed in 1905 after being denied admittance to a buffalo hotel due to their skin color. The group started as a civil rights movement majorly organized and controlled by W.E.B. Dubois and William Monroe (Digital, 11:53). The Movement's main principles were directed toward opposition against Booker T. Washington due to his philosophy toward the accommodation of black people. The name Niagara was initially derived from a gathering by the members at Niagara Falls and the mighty protest they would unleash later. In the same context, the Women's Suffrage movement started in the early 1820 and 30s due to the segregation of black people and women, as most states during that time were majorly populated with only white people (DuBois and Ellen Carol2019).
The group members of the Niagara Movement increased from 29 to 170 during the first year, but still, the group had no funding to expand its pressure toward equal rights. After the incident in 1906, the group continued to protest and send letters to the president at that time Theodore Roosevelt. The same year, the Movement organized its second conference at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. The group's accomplishment and establishment of more brunches had no significant impact due to internal struggles, mainly from leadership. The issues majorly demoralized the group from attracting more members (Digital, 12:20).
