Kenschaft, L. J. (2016). Gender inequality in our changing world: A comparative approach
The author argues that gender inequality represents a challenge that undermines the social fabric and affects everyone in the society. He asserts that it is both a human rights issue and a tremendous waste of the world’s human potential. An organization that deprives women equal rights with their counterparts also denies the other half of the population a chance to express themselves. Social, economic, and political equality for women will benefit all the world’s citizens. According to him, gender equality problem has been ignored for some time now, leading to the rise in what is termed as feminism. He concludes that gender impartiality is only attainable when both sexes benefit from similar opportunities and rights across all fields of societies. The possibilities include economic involvement and decision-making, taking care of aspirations and needs of women in equal favor and value. The source helps in underlining the effects of gender inequality in the current society.
Bonfils, L, & European Institute for Gender Equality. (2013). Gender equality index: Report. Luxembourg: Europ. Inst. for Gender Equality.
According to the authors research, gender equality is measured by taking into consideration the concentration of both men and women in different roles in the economy. The idea of focusing on gender equality should not be mistaken with accepting that men and women are the same. The topic is a result of unequal power distribution between men and women, magnified by the ongoing discrimination, loopholes in laws, policies, and institutions, and social relations that normalize inequality. From a global perspective, gender inequality views gender as a power relation. According to the book, efforts on gender inequality, therefore, aims to address unequal gender norms that constrain both men and women, as well as transgender and intersex people. The Christian perspective views inequality as the act where both men and women are treated unequally, different from the purpose outlined by God. The book contains statistical measurements of the levels of inequality experienced by both genders.
Lorber, J. (2012). Gender inequality: Feminist theories and politics. New York, NY: Oxford Univ. Press
The book suggests that in society where men and women are equal, there should be no situation where one side receives favors to prosper than the other. In that, both men and women should have equal opportunities to access resources that should better their life. It is at this point that the truth that women have been historically discriminated against should be addressed. The author suggests that historical injustices and discrimination against women have to be taken care of so that they can also be at the same starting point as their counterparts. However, he concludes that what conservatives and classical liberals argue against is approaching the gender inequality issue from the outcome and positive discrimination angle. The author highlights the rise in feminist tendencies of only looking at injustice from the angle of only women being the oppressed.
Ivo Poletto, I. P. (2016, March 7). Christianity and Gender Equality. Retrieved from /gender-equality-blog/christianity-and-gender-equality.html
.
The article outlines equality of outcome as an unrealistic approach that is either driven by modern-day feminists or the hatred created against men. It further asserts that policies and laws should be changed to remove all barriers to women participation in public, political, or academic life. From that point onward, it is up to women to show that they have enough merit to justify their selection for a job or election to a political position. Therefore, feminism is a negative force that does not seek to address the challenges affecting women but criticizes men for the position they have attained in society. People quickly forget that not all men have achieved better economic and political freedom by oppressing women, but they have done so by sheer hard work and commitment. The article also discourages against the rising case of feminism in the society. Their arguments are not good for the society.
Anne Graham Lotz, A. G. (2016, September 24). The Bible Is Crystal Clear on Gender Equality. Retrieved from /discussion/the-bible-is-crystal-clear-on-gender-equality
The article starts by stating that in every corner of the world, religious teachings on gender and power always revolve around biblical teachings. For this reason, Christians have a responsibility to accurately critique biblical teachings on sexuality to bring the best outcome. The article relies on evidence from evangelistic scholars, who argue that the biblical view of inequality should start from the simple fact that men and women are all created with equal dignity to share authority. Christians for Biblical Equality provides resources that equip all Christians to acknowledge the similar gifts within them regardless of their gender. Therefore, the article further suggests that both males and females are equally created and called to exercise their God-given talents with equal authority and equal responsibility at home, church, and the workplaces. The article highlights what the various Christian bodies think about the topic of gender inequality.
Philip B. Payne, P. P. (2017, January 1). Biblical Gender Equality: A Summary. Retrieved from /resources/article/other/biblical-gender-equality-summary
The article highlights that there is no evidence in the Genesis account of creation that points out that man is higher in authority and status over women. The creation story emphasizes equality because it states that God created woman from man’s rib, and the man acknowledges that she is the bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh. The statement shows that they both share the same substance and that they should complement each other. He concludes that since man’s domination over a woman is a result of the fall, man could not have ruled over a woman before the fall. The effect of men ruling over women, even in the current situation, is that women are denied the equal authority with men that God delegated to them in creation according to the article. Additionally, because of their fallen nature, many men have used their positions of power to abuse women. The article highlights that the topic of man dominating over woman is only extended because of the judgment God passed to man after they had sinned.
Siitonen, L. (2015). Women's Issues at IFLA: Equality, Gender and Information on Agenda: Papers from the Programs of the Round Table on Women's Issues at IFLA Annual Conferences 1993-2002.
The author illustrates that the current world is beginning to understand the actual variations among women and men. The author describes that apart from the distinct physical differences, there are also distinctions in the way men and women behave, speak, and think. Their coming together in body and soul is a clear intention of trying to improve the living condition of all people. In their duty to God, there is entirely no distinction between a man and a woman, except for in the way that they serve their purposes. According to her, the male and female being represent two forms of pure energy; they are the feminine and masculine components of a single soul. No person can boldly claim that God is either male or female, but He has manifestations of both genders. The manly representation, which is more assertive, and the feminine way, which is calmer. The author points that women have to be treated equally as women, even if they have different strengths and weaknesses.
