In this particular approach, the observation data are positioned as the main component of the research design. Quantitative research is used to test assumptions and theories and is mostly expressed in graphs and numbers. Quantitative research is mainly used to establish generalizable facts about a given topic whereas qualitative research is expressed in words and is used to understand experiences, thoughts or concepts. Qualitative research enables the researcher to collect in-depth insights on a topic that is not clearly understood. The preferable approach in a case study is qualitative data collection and the researcher's objectivity is centred on the in-depth evaluation, comparative, and descriptive of the subject of interest. In this case study, three diverse general practices (cases) were approached to take part in the research. The practices were selected on the premises that they were already successfully engaged in some inter-professional activities which increased the potential learnings from the cases. The data was composed of 32 hours of field-noted observation of informal practice activity, 17 individual interviews, 43 reviewed documents and 6-hour video-recorded team meetings (Morgan et al., 2017). This was appropriate for the research. From this research, the field notes and reflective summaries were promptly circulated to the research team for review who added observations and comments which were later on distributed to all the team members.
