Journal critique of the published journal article titles, “Emotion and false memory: How goal-irrelevance can be relevant for what people remember.” The critique was an eight-paper paper that was supposed to answer 8 main questions provided. The questions were,

What theoretical explanations are emphasized in this section? What are the main hypotheses of the present study? Summarize the relevant research studies in the introduction, including the hypotheses.

5. What did you learn from the results section? What kinds of statistical procedures were used? What did you learn from charts, frequency tables, and bar graphs? What results did the authors say were statistically significant? Summarize the results of the study.
6. What did you learn from the discussion section? How did the authors interpret their results? Did they provide alternative explanations? Did they talk about the limitations of the present research study? What future research studies were suggested? Describe in detail the discussion section.
7. What did you think about the article? Explain.
8. Can you design a similar study on this topic? Explain what you thought about and how you might design a similar study.

The journal by Van Damme et al. (2017) discusses the formation of false memory in human minds through emotional events. The journal's title presents both the independent and dependent variables. Variables are characteristics that take different values like height and assist in scientific research to achieve accurate results. The independent variables are variables whose values do not rely on other variables in research (Van Damme et al., 2017). For example, an individual's age is independent because their daily undertakings like exercise, diet, luxuries, and education cannot affect or change their age. On the contrary, dependent variables rely on other variables, particularly the independent variable, for outcomes.
For instance, in an experiment to determine whether diet affects an individual's health, the dependent variable will be the type of foods a person consumes (Van Damme et al., 2017). Therefore, in this case, the independent variable is an emotion, while the dependent variable is a false memory. For a false memory to occur, there must be an emotional event that led to its occurrence. The authors studied comparison of participants' susceptibility to false memories when they discussed data on positive versus negative emotions and pre-goal versus post-goal emotions (Van Damme et al., 2017). Pregoal emotions reflect on situations where a goal as either a failure or an achievement has not taken place. Contrarily, post-goal emotions are emotional situations where a goal has already occurred.
From the introduction, I have learned that memory can be inaccurate, and forgetfulness can lead to memory distortion (Van Damme et al., 2017). As a result, individuals can think of memories that never occurred. The journal describes the misinformation paradigm as one of the key techniques for assessing memory quality. The paradigm explains the power and effects of suggestions toward distortion of memories. Misinformation paradigm participants asserted that suggested information in the elaboration process increases the vulnerability to false memory (Van Damme et al., 2017). Previous studies about false memory have revealed the imagination power to distort memory.
A study shows that emotional factors of proposed events the possibility of false memory to a bigger extent (Van Damme et al., 2017). Infect, the
