Introduction and Background
Social media has taken the world by a storm, its adoption within organizations is pivotal in augmenting engagement and fostering bonds within the professional community. According to Priyadarshini et al. (2020), over 2.7 billion people use social media daily which is about 31 % of the earth’s population. In addition projections indicate the users will reach 3.5 billion by 2021. Past studies indicate that Twitter and Facebook, are the popular social media platforms among students. Research indicates that social media usage among academic circles has adverse implications on student’s academic performance and social life (Priyadarshini et al., 2020). Similarly, in the workplace social media has adverse outcomes as it contributes to time wastage and limits employees’ performance. The article by Priyadarshini et al. (2020) seeks to establish how social media addiction influences workers’ efficiency and health since these aspects remain unexplored in scholarly investigations.
Research Question
The authors note that behavioral addictions are some of the indicators that social media dependency has detrimental implications on the workers’ health and daily functions.
