IMPACT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ON BUSINESS
ABSTRACT
Information technology in the past two decades has paved the way for innovations. More businesses can show increasing leveraging the importance of digital tools that improve their prospects. The report shows how information technology in turning business plans into success. It suffices to note that IT has really changed lives dramatically. It provides businesses with the space to analyze, plan, strategize data accordingly. However, the organization that utilizes information technology optimizes profits due to the use of accurate data. There are negative impacts of information technology that are connected to techno ethics and social issues. These barriers are manageable, and organizations can run smoothly by taking the right measures for success.
1. Introduction
The term information technology (IT) means using physical devices like computers, storage to create, process, secure, exchange, and secure all kinds of data. Information Technology has preferably used in the surrounding of organizations operations as opposed to entertainment and personal technology. Information technology, however, encompasses the use of telephony and computer technology when used commercially. It includes the use of devices lie computers, visualization, electronic tools, software, and operating systems used to perform important roles. Other user devices, software, and peripherals are included in the information technology domain. They include laptops, recording equipment, or even smartphones. It suffices to remark that IT is the methodologies, regulations, and architectures governing the storage and data use. In business applications, information technology includes using the database, transitional systems, and email servers. An example of a database is an SQL server, while email sever includes the web servers like customer relationship management, Apache, and enterprise source planning systems. The above applications command programmed instructions to consolidate, manipulate, disperse, and affect data for the desired business purpose.
In large organizations, servers run the business. They interact with other servers and client users across business networks. Amy's kind of technology that is capable of holding information is known as storage. They include a hard disk, flash drives, random access memory (RAM), and tapes. Information tends to take any form, including multimedia, file data, telephony data, future formats, and web data. Virtualization and cloud computing are forms of IT architectures where physical resources are pooled and subtracted to meet application requirements. The use of the World Wide Web and the internet has done businesses to reach every part of the world. For example, the use of the internet I marketing campaign makes the business to attract customers globally. However, there are threats associated with the use of information technology in business. For example, the use of malicious activities such as hacking. This calls for the organization to be careful when using technology in business. This paper focuses on the impact of using information technology in business.
2. Literature review
2.1. The role of IT in business
The relationship between productivity and investment in information technology (productivity paradox) has been the main concern for scholars, practitioners, and researchers in the business world. Researchers seek to test the correlation between economic performance and IT investment. (e.g., Holotiuk et al., 2017; Weking, et al., 2019; Saldanha, et al., 2020; Levi-Bliech, et al., 2018; Puspitasari, and Jie, 2020; Slim et al., 2020; Valkokari, et al.,2018; Holbrook, 2018; Havard, 2020) IT investments involves the use of computers, hardware, software, telecommunications and services as defined by some researchers (Havard, 2020 n.p). Also, Holotiuk, et al., 2017 n.p argued that information technology's role could e interpreted differently at the country, industry, economic, and firm levels. IT takes a major role in economic growth and consumer welfare at the country level, and labor productivity (Holbrook, 2018, p.13). A country's economic growth is the change in the growth of domestic products (GDP). The growth in output per worker or labor productivity is the evaluation of resources to create value. The metrics of economic performance, which are elements of profitability and labor productivity, are measured at the firm level. However, information technology's main importance is to assess the business impact and organizations' value in the investment. The researches were conducted using two main approaches. The first approach contains imperial studies that tried to establish a direct correlation between the organization's performance and IT investment through intermediary processes (Slim, et al., 2020 p. 837). The other approach contains literature that includes direct linkage between business performance and IT investment at many levels as Puspitasari, and Jie, 2020 suggested, such as firm levels, industry, and economic levels.
2.2. Ethics and social issues of IT
There are ethical and social issues that must be dealt with in information Technology in business on an individual, political and social level (Saldanha, et al., 2020, n.p). Analysis argued that ethical issues in business take several moral dimensions. They include system quality, control, accountability, property rights, quality of life, and information obligations and rights. However, several key technology trends associate ethical stress with social laws and arrangements. The first trend is the power of computing. This issue has grown first in the last decades. Researchers suggest that allowing the growth in critical systems' independence increases risks of poor data quality and system errors. This happens only when organisations allow IT systems to run their business processes. Another ethical issue is the use of storage techniques that are advanced. According to Weking, et al., 2019, p.18 advanced data storage techniques have allowed private and public organisations to multiplying databases on individuals- making individual privacy to be cheaply and effectively violated. Improved data analysis techniques has enabled companies to determine information about individuals' taste and habits.
Government agencies also use advanced techniques in data analysis to track potential criminals and terrorists. A new data technology referred to as nonobvious relationship awareness (NORA) can find and correlate the hidden relationship between terrorists and criminals by taking hidden data about people from many internet sources (Slim et al., 2020 p. 833). Therefore, information technology plays an essential role in society. Those who break the law can be easily identified, and despite few errors, IT has a positive impact on society.
2.3. Networks and their types (in general)
The general literature review examines new approaches concerning networks and their consequences. Their main goals are to identify the use of concepts and methods in developing organizations (Levi-Bliech, et al., 2018, p. 318). Approaches recognized by databases and journals for computer science and information are commonly used in review and research. Databases and journals used include the IEEE (ieexpolre.iee.org), science direct, ACM, and springer link. The research about Networking before 2012 led to irrelevant results because the term software was used to define other topics, including Networking. Investigations examine the aspect of networking and their correlation to business behavior. In the last few years, a meta-analysis indicates that entrepreneurs with impactful ideas of innovation and pioneering use networking to acquire resources. Further research suggests that these entrepreneurs do not entirely adopt knowledge acquired from the network, but they synthesize.
Therefore, information technology through a network improves the environment in business hence good performance. Currently, organizations partner with other big companies like online libraries and google to facilitate and advertise services. For instance, when the user wants to access information on the internet, the system will choose a particular website, like google or phoenix. This shows that the browser is a superior network, and it requires studying the organizational behavior of the company's employees.
For example, an organization's main personnel like Facebook include the support team, management, an...
