The employment-at-will doctrine is a work relationship principle that defines the employee or employer’s freedom to cut short their involvement with the company. The doctrine allows the employer to fire an employee without justification. Subsequently, the employee can also quit for any reason whatsoever. The three primary pillars of understanding the role of the employment-at-will doctrine are: the no change to the public policy, the company’s good faith and fair dealing, and the freedom to decline to sign the agreement.
