Every individual has an experience or an activity that they have ever undertaken in their life, and at some point, they felt that they had never given in the best because maybe the results or performance was not pleasing or the results obtained were below what was expected. However, there is usually a chance to redeem oneself once they change the attitude and mindset that was held before, and I am not exceptional because I once had an experience in which I believe if I could embrace a growth mindset, I would have viewed the event differently. When I was in high school, I teamed up with a few of my classmates and indulged ourselves some substance abuse because we thought that was the only way we could improve our performance in mathematics, a subject which I underperformed. Little did I know that this would only worsen the situation and further derail my performance in not only mathematics but also other subjects. However, if I could embrace a growth mindset like seeking assistance from my classmates and tutors to help me fix the situation, I feel that my score would have improved, and this would have given me a boost in the overall performance. This could have also enabled me, together with my friends, to avoid the substance abuse trap that we eventually found ourselves in, and it proved too costly to get out of addiction.
As I go through this course and pursue my degree, there are some ways I can keep developing a growth mindset and reinforce that behavior in other areas of my life. They include acknowledging imperfections, viewing challenges as opportunities, embracing diverse learning tactics, developing and initiating a sense of purpose in my learning, and also engaging in other co-curricular activities like charity work, which helps build positive relationships and constructively engage the mind.
