American civil war
American Civil War started in 1861 after many years of disagreement between the South and the North States. These disagreements incorporated the Western expansion, federal and States rights, and slavery. The American revolution of 1763 might have been the primary cause of the war because it divided America into two parts; the South and the North. The States from the North and the South had different views about governance of America, and with the election of Abraham Lincoln as the President of America in 1860, seven states from the south; Florida, Mississipi, Alabama, Louisiana and South Carolina confirmed their succession from the Union and created the Confederate States of America. Likewise, four States, Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas and Tennessee came together and joined the Confederation after the begin of the Civil War. Both had different views on slavery, whereby the Confederates wanted to maintain slave trade while the Union wanted to unite the country as one nation.
Advocation of State’s right was one of the signs of the American Civil War. These rights concerned the struggle between the individual states and the federal government over political authority. Since the period of the American Revolution, two camps evolved whereby those who were claiming for greater states' rights and those claiming that the federal government required to have more regulations. At the Constitutional Convection and create, the constitution and, in secret, most people felt that the constitution did not uphold the rights of the states to progress to act independently. Moreover, they felt that the states ought to have the rights to make decisions if they were willing to accept various federal acts. This resulted in the nullification whereby the states would have the power to rule federal acts not constitutional. However, the federal government did not accept this.
The Southern and Northern part of America grew along distinct lines. The South was rural and agricultural. With the discovery of the cotton gin in 1773, cotton cultivation becomes the most profitable enterprise in the South. However, this led to the increase of cheap labor provided by slaves. The southern economy became a sole economy depending on slavery and cotton. In contrast, the Northern economy was industrialized at a very high rate.
