According to the reading, a band refers to any ensemble of instruments. Bands are mostly categorized according to functions, the marching band and also showband. The reading discusses bands of between 1600 and 1900. Before 1600 there were wind bands which consisted of shawms, drums, and trumpets. This type of band had the following types of music; military music. The musicians here were an army of Germany Empire. According to the response, this type of music used the olden type of instruments. Harmonie, which was for hautbois. They played during special festivals. Lastly, there were civil and church bands which occurred from the 18th century to 19th century. The reading about bands gives several terminologies to ensure clarity. The reading also gives a proceeding of how bands occurred up to the 21st century.
