Friendship is seen as a significant point of conflict throughout the novel. It is a question of whether the Indians and the Englishmen can become friends or not regarding the situation at hand. The issue is that the Indians are under the colonial rule of the British. The problem arises when the Englishmen take control of the Indians and India at Large personally.
