Costco is a membership warehouse that offers a number of merchandise and the specialty of departments and the offer of having exclusive membership. The company pays generous wages and benefits in accord with the company’s chief executive officer, Jim Sinegal who believes that taking care of employees and turning inventory faster than people is good business. The chain of companies is experiencing booming growth and surging revenue and profits. The company applies the human resources technology in its management and employees. The firm is among the largest companies in the retail business in the world. The company now has different branches in numerous countries.
Technology had widely changed the business world in many ways especially the human resource sector. Costco uses various technological advancements in the human resource sector so as to increase to efficiency of the firm. The firm uses virtualization so as to save space, increase the agility of Information technology and reduce the costs. Costco uses the internet to recruit new employees by posting the vacant positions of the company on the internet and their website. The firm also uses print technology to advertise the open positions in the company and to get prospects for open positions. The firm also uses the internet for networking through their worldwide network thus making the recruitment exercise easy and efficient. Costco Company also uses technology in the training of new and old staff members efficiently through providing of the firm’s information and training programs to them. Training of the new staff in a virtual way will help the Human Resource trainers to train a large number of staff and assess their progress in an efficient way through the computerized programs in the firm.
The company uses various methods to assess its employees. They use various tactics to assess the entry-level applicants and other aspiring workers. The assessment process usually takes two to three weeks to complete from the initial day of the submission of the required documents and forms to the final interview session. The candidates are taken through various tests that include one-on-one interview, panel interviews and also phone interviews. The assessment process begins with a phone call to the potential employee and it mainly involves a question and answer session between the individual and a manager or several managers. Successful applicants move to the next phase where there are consecutive interviews with the managers. The interviews are usually conducted by a mix of supervisors and managers.
The use of Human Resource technology has widely been adopted in the business world and Costco being a fine example, it has proved that it is highly efficient and the cause of business success. The use of Human Resource technology has also reduced the cost of operation of the firm and other firms in general as the virtualization technology is cheaper compared to other forms of technology. It has also increased the flexibility of the company’s operations.
There are several lessons to be learnt from the Costco Company. First, the use of Human Resource technology increases the efficiency in a firm. This is due to the evidence of the gradual growth of the firm and the consistent operational successes in the firm. The use of technology has played a major role in the success of the company. Another lesson is drawn from the assessment methods that are put in place in the firm to ensure that the employees in the firm are the best and that they play a great part in the growth of the firm. The various stages of assessment are meant to ensure that the employees are up to standard. The Costco Company has several procedures that ensure the credibility and the performance of the entire staff. All the discussed strategies and the procedures during assessment assist in the growth and development of the firm in general.
