Solution-1
Short term strategies for Acme Fragrances
Based on the following factors several strategies can be worked upon without any major changes or relocation, we can provide Acme with more space in their facility to accommodate growth in the short term.
1.Re-optimization of Existing Space
Acme could take time to look over its existing warehouse and manufacturing facilities basically as a lay-down area and maybe change around to optimize the little space available. This may, in turn, call for alteration of the layout of storage systems to increase ultimate storage capacity per area or optimization of use of the vertical dimension. Acme should consider reevaluating the layout and design of its warehouse to maximize storage capacity. By optimizing the use of vertical space and adjusting the storage systems, more inventories can be accommodated without expanding the physical footprint of the warehouse (Richards, 2021).
2.Implementing a WMS (Warehouse Management System)
Acme’s current process of storing information about storage decisions in papers is inefficient and must be contributing to poor space optimization since the employee is unable to locate the inventory. Implementing a WMS offers the advantage of improving stock conditions, reducing the space needed for stocking goods, and generally increasing the efficiency of order picking. In addition, inventory management can be done more accurately, leading to less need for buffer stocking, hence providing more free space.
3.Temporary Use of External Storage
In the worst case, it continued with the use of the local haulage contractor’s warehouse though sufficient it can be used to store some excess stocks for some time depending on the measures of cleaning and improvement of security so that the products do not get contaminated.
4.Reworking Returned Products and Archive Storage
This can include space occupied by returned products that need to be resent for rework or other products that are currently stored in archives. It may be resolved to handle the returned goods more efficiently or to move the non-accessioned higher volumes off the main store. This would immediately free up important warehouse space that could be used for other functions
5.Implementing the JIT system (Just-In-Time)
In inventory management is the act of providing the company with the stock on which it depends only when they are required and not before that. This form of acquiring inventory also assists in reducing the space needed for storage by a great deal since one only order what is needed and not in bulk. It eliminates the conditions under which an organization has many material stocks waiting to be used or sold because it demands materials to be delivered at the right time when they are required in production or forwarding. Besides, this method is useful in saving space at the facility and in cutting the expenses that are incurred in stocking excess inventory like warehousing costs and minimizing the possibility of outdating or obsolescence of stock.
Acme overcome the issue of lost sales in Europe
1.Setup of a European Distribution Center
Acme will be able to stock their products nearest to the client through establishing a warehouse in the European Union which will reduce the time spent on customs and therefore gain more time in delivering services. Establishing a warehouse within the European Union will reduce customs delays and improve delivery times (Smith, 2022).
2.Deal with Customs Brokers having sufficient experience
Cooperating with customs specialists is beneficial for the further realization of the actual completion of the required paperwork right now, at the earliest, with minimal time spent at the border.
3.Keep Inventory in EuropeThe expansion of the capability to hold more inventory levels, for instance, in strategic places in Europe can make Acme to attend to order requirements faster as new product shipment from the UK often tends to cause some sort of delay.
4.Explore alternative shipping routes
Engaging in the study of the less-busy ports or the less-known mode of shipping might just be the saver of the delay; no matter that costs are slightly more, these shall be regained in the long run. Enhance Real-Time Tracking and Communication: Most tracking systems assist in ensuring that customers are informed on the progress of their order; thus, it regulates customer expectations and yields satisfaction.
