One of the core mandates of the Human Resource department at any organization is to fulfill the staffing needs of the organization. As such, both demand and supply of labor force need to be closely evaluated with a view to maintaining an optimal number of employees. In the end of the day, such decisions are underpinned by a desire to maximize utility for the organization, against budgetary, legal and other constraints. The most important aspect of this mandate is personnel selection. The critical nature of this process cannot be understated. It is absolutely essential that job openings be matched by the most qualified candidates, so as to ensure sustainable productivity in the long term. Consequently, human resource practitioners need to adopt the most appropriate selection tools based on the nature of vacancies to be filled and the type of organization in question.
Ideal Profile for Plant Manager
The ideal candidate for the Plant Manger position at Dynamo Industries should have an educational background in electrical engineering. This would equip him or her with the relevant technical expertise to handle the company's key business; manufacturing of electrical motors. Further, given the fact that his position is critical in terms of overseeing the production function, such technical knowledge is very important. In addition, the candidate should have served in a technical position in a large organization for a period of not less than 5 years. This would ensure that he or she has the requisite balance between academic knowledge and actual real life skills for the job.
Another key consideration that the ideal candidate must fulfill is the ability to manage huge groups of employees. Therefore, he or she should have served in a management role in a comparable organization for a significant period of time. It is important to bring such experience on board because the operations of a company of this magnitude are fairly complex. Managerial skills are also essential in light of the human resource problems that have faced the Pittsburg division of Dynamo Industries. The ideal candidate should therefore exhibit demonstrable leadership skills that have been brought to bear in times of challenges involving people management.
