To remain competitive, an organization must adapt to and embrace change while effectively communicating it to all stakeholders. In this case, Sandeep's storytelling services company was thriving, but the failure to communicate the introduction of a second storyteller led to client dissatisfaction.
The key lesson from this situation is the importance of effective communication during organizational change. A comprehensive communication plan should precede any changes, outlining responsibilities, communication channels, timing, and content. The plan should develop a compelling message, using various communication channels such as emails, text messages, intranet, and meetings. Monitoring the plan's effectiveness, listening to feedback, and making adjustments as needed are crucial steps.
Addressing the communication problem involves creating an action plan with strategies for improving communication, implementing new processes, and utilizing tools. Clear, measurable goals for communication should be established, focusing on improved clarity, increased efficiency, and better understanding among team members. If necessary, adjustments should be made to the plan, such as replacing the new storyteller with Sandeep if the audience is dissatisfied.
The communication goals should target staff, clients, and other stakeholders, ensuring they are informed about the change, understand its reasons, and accept the new storyteller. Emphasizing the positive aspects of the change is essential, highlighting the value the new storyteller brings and how it benefits the organization and its stakeholders in the long run.
