What type of memories emerges? The house she lived in? The room where the smell lingered? The emotions attached to visiting her?
The sense of smell is closely linked with memory, probably more so than any of our other senses. That makes the memory not to forget the smell so easily. Olfactory also has a strong input in the amygdala which process emotions .therefore when I think of the smell and the living condition of my grandmother, my emotions do rise and I can’t hold it. These emotions are retained in my mind and I do retrieve them so easily.
Why do you think that is
This is because the cerebellum and basal ganglia helps us to learn new motor skills and past experiences to remember things even without thinking about them.
Can you think of a conditioned response that you are still carrying in adulthood that you learned in childhood? Yes , learning how to repair radio .
Can you think if a trauma that one can experience where only parts of the events are remembered while others are not?
