Introduction
Currently, I hold the position of a marketing executive at Turquoise Fashion House, a company that began its operations about three years ago. The company deals with buying wholesale and retail sales of high-end clothing, ranging from kids wear, ladies wear and even clothes for men. It is an exciting industry due to the growing demand for high-quality clothes. Most of our customers are the working class peoples, between the age of eighteen and forty. I work alongside other marketing executives. The following is a SWOT analysis whereby I have identified some factors that give me a competitive advantage in the organization.
Strengths
There are several added advantages that I hold that give me a competitive edge in the marketing department. First and foremost, I hold a master’s degree qualification in sales and marketing in addition to my undergraduate degree in business administration. My educational background enables me to understand the world of business quite adequately as I am aware of how the business cycle operates especially for our line of products. I have also had prior experience in the industry, having worked previously with another big-name company in the fashion industry. My experience allows me to understand the market better than some of my colleagues.
Another strength that I possess is effective communication skills. I have developed the skill due to my experience in the field over the years, having worked in the field of marketing for approximately eight years. In any business that entails dealing directly with customers; effective communication is a vital resource (Argenti, 2012). The reason is that the way one deals with clients could determine whether they make a purchase or not. My skill thus enables me to exchange information with our suppliers, clients, distributors and even my colleagues at work. As mentioned earlier, I have been in the fashion industry for some time thus I have established connections with important stakeholders in the market. My seniors view me as a very resourceful employee because often I can offer advice especially on current trends in the market as well as predicting the sales at different seasons. Lastly, what I do better than most of my colleagues is that I keep time. Punctuality is an important element as it enables me to meet most of my deadlines.
Weaknesses
Despite the numerous strengths highlighted above, there are some few weaknesses that I am still grappling with but hope to improve in the near future. One thing is that I always assume that everyone at the organization possesses the same work ethic as I do. In this regard, I find myself pushing some of my colleagues in our department off limits. However, I have realized that I need to be a little more patient with them as some do not possess the same academic qualifications as I do. Therefore, they may be slow in understanding some things regarding the operational requirements of our field. Another thing is that not everyone possesses the same experience as I do. Some of them are fresh graduates who still need to be groomed to improve their efficiency. We even have some interns who cannot be expected to perform at the same level as other senior personnel in the organization. As a result of my high-handedness at times, some of my colleagues tend to fear me. I hope to build better rapport with my team in the coming months because such a united team can deliver better results for the company.
Opportunities
In order to achieve its long-term objectives, a company must always be on the lookout for new opportunities to explore so as to increase its revenues. As part of the team mandated to do that, I have identified some opportunities that I feel would be beneficial if exploited. First, I have realized that customer convenience is important in business. In this regard, most businesses have begun the trend of delivering their products directly to their clients’ premises or places of work. They do it either by hiring courier service providers or by using their company-owned means of delivery. I am planning to raise the issue with the top management to ensure that the same is implemented at Turquoise Fashion House. Another strategy we can implement is opening several other branches and outlets to expand our client base. I am going to identify high-potential areas that would be suitable for our target market. I also plan to launch an intensive media advertising campaign for our products to ensure that we reach as many customers as possible. Lastly, I intend to introduce a system where we have great offers occasionally during the festive season. I am confident that this step would endear us to our customers and improve our revenues as well as the strength of our brand.
Threats
As expected in any organization, there must be threats that may hinder the efficiency of operation....
