1 How does the author want the reader to feel while reading "The Cask of Amontillado"?
The author wants readers of to feel some sense of suspicion and exhaustion. I just got this feeling from the first paragraph throughout the entire text. For instance, the very first two sentences indicate that the narrator has sworn revenge and is threatened. Then, after a few sentences, the narrator said, "I continued to smile on his face according to my habit. He did not realize that my smile now was the thought of his self-immolation.” (Poe, 2008)

The author also uses words such as "wet", "cold", "cautious", and "distressed" to make the context and mood appear dark and full of suspense.
3 How has the author described the characters to make them seem like real people?
Poe's way of describing the characters and their behavior makes them look like real people since he shapes their personalities based on some characteristics of real characters. Just as the storyteller seems more determined to take serious revenge on Fortunato. Furthermore, how Poe just made Fortunato look like more of a stupid and disgusting person.
