* Temperature
An observation of the patient’s temperature shows that she had normal body temperature at 36.8°C. Normal body temperature is usually at 37°C. When the temperature is higher than this, it could be an indication of fever. Therefore, in reference to the patient’s temperature, there is no cause for alarm.
* Heart rate
The patient’s heart rate is 160bpm and irregular. A look at the patient’s heart rate shows that it is not normal. The resting heart rate of a person who is not engaged in an active activity should be between 60-100bpm (Avram, et al., 2019). So, since Ms. Lara, at 78 years old, was not being involved in active activities, the 160bpm heart rate is too fast for her. However, there are other factors that contribute to a heart beating faster than normal. Smoking is one of these factors. According to the history of Ms. Lara, she has been smoking a pack of cigarettes daily for about 40 years. Research indicates that smoking is a contributing factor to increased heart rate. It causes major arteries to tighten and, thus, lead to an irregular heartbeat (Li, Wang, Wang, et al. 2017). Therefore, there is a relationship between the irregular heart rate and the patient’s smoking history.
Based on the observed heart rate from the patient, it is evident that she has a heart arrhythmia. Essentially, a heart arrhythmia refers to an irregular heartbeat. The beats generated by the heart are coordinated by electrical signals. In the event that the electrical signals fail to work as they should, the outcome is an irregular heartbeat (Li, Wang, Wang et al. 2017). Whenever the faulty signaling happens, the heart will beat too slowly, too fast, or irregularly. In the case of Ms. Lara, observations show her heart beating faster than normal at 160bpm. One of the risk factors of this condition is the
