Introduction
Mr. Justine Davies is 55 years old male from Perth WA. He works as a store manager at a local supermarket. He lately stopped working due to his health worsening. He was diagnosed with bowel cancer about 4 weeks ago. While undergoing the tests, it was discovered that he has type II diabetes. Since then his life has changed greatly both personally and workwise. He has low mood and has not been feeding properly. He has gained a lot of weight and has lost all ambition to workout. He will shortly undergo pre-surgical radiation treatment for his intestinal cancer and visit the cancer care clinic every day for 6 weeks, and be getting simultaneous chemotherapy. Justin acute alteration falls under cancer control, diabetes mellitus and mental health. This case study will focus on the deteriorating health of Justin in bowel cancer, mental health and type II diabetes.
Evidence to show how NHPA related to Justin’s condition
Mental health would have a huge impact on Justin’s life and affect many aspects of his daily life. This including how he feel, think and ways to handle stress as well as making certain decisions (Usher et al. 2020). The mental issue would make it harder for Justin to stick to his diabetes care plan. Most of the cancer patients who have mental health problem would have deteriorating health outcomes, as a result of reduced adherence to treatments. A study conducted on 6210 cancer patients in Australia, showed that 17.4% had anxiety, 23.5% were depressed, 9.3% had PTSD, while 13.0% had hostility (Ng et al. (2018). A previous study in Australia showed that 15.6% of patients with cancer had clinical symptoms of a depression and mental disorders (Wang et al. 2020). A cancer diagnosis could as well result to symptoms of a mental health problem.
Signs and symptoms expected to deteriorate
Justin may complain of symptoms such as polyuria, thirst, tiredness, nocturia, polydipsia and reduced visual activity. Justin may experience increased thirst, as well as frequent urination than normal. This is due to sugar causing dehydration, where drawing of fluid occurs from blood circulation into the tissues, resulting in increased thirst. This occur due to lack of insulin to transfer the sugar into the cells, which would also cause muscles to need more energy (Nanayakkara et al. 2018). As
