Management of Outbreaks Name: Institution: Review of Answers Jane Stafford has noted that measles is an actual threat in Australia. Although it is managed and controlled by an infanthood vaccine, it still finds a way of creeping back to the people. Therefore, it is agreeable that the government should be in continuous alert and surveillance in order to detect and treat new cases. As a viral disease, measles outbreaks can be hard to control especially in cases where the outbreak has spread a lot. The policy to have a second immunization against measles at childhood should be encouraged. This is because research shows that many Australians are not adequately protected from the disease. Low adequate results from low herd immunity that has been experienced in the country. Malshadi has made an interesting report on Pertussis. One of the things that he notes correctly is the elusive nature of the whooping cough virus. Australia has not been able to control the disease efficiently through vaccination. Evidence shows that pertussis outbreaks are experienced every 3-4 years. Such a condition prompts the health department to do something concerning the control of the disease (Pillsbury, Quinn and Mclntyre, 2014). At the moment, the disease cannot be controlled because there exists very limited evidence about it. Perhaps, that is why the government has not been able to control it. Reasons for Success in Management of Outbreaks Communication and Awareness According to Conte (2012), communication and awareness are the primary reasons for successful management and control of outbreaks. The relevant government authorities are also required to communicate as to how the people can prevent themselves from the pathogens causing the outbreak. In other words, the act of informing the public of the danger is crucial in making the people take the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease. In the modern setting, communication and awareness if made through the media, campaigns and such other means meant to reach a lot of people. Vaccination and Treatment Research is a crucial measure in the management of outbreaks. When an outbreak is reported, the government is usually mandated with the role of researching and coming up with vaccines and treatments. Vaccines are used to prevent people from contracting the disease while treatments are used as intervention to the people who have already contracted the disease (Engelkirk and Duben, 2007). For example, communicable diseases are efficiently managed if vaccines and treatment are found. Vaccines are used to prevent the healthy people from contracting the virus while the treatments are used to prevent the sick people from passing the pathogen on to the other people. High Vaccination Rates and Preventable Disease Outbreaks Vaccination is a proactive defense against disease outbreaks (Boom and Cunningham, 2014). Therefore, h...
