Working in the media industry stimulates numerous encounters with ethical issues. The media industry is often ruled by a code of conduct, which outlines ethical issues to consider. However, irrespective of these guidelines, media personalities continually encounter situations that affect the line of duty. While talking to media personnel, I figured that it may be hard trying to satisfy the needs of different people and reach certain expectations. Importantly, the interviewee showed that ethical concerns at times depend on an individual rather than the entire corporation.
The interviewee outlined numerous ethical dilemmas. One notable one was when her boss was flirting with her and continually asked them to be intimate with the promise of a pay rise and better working conditions. The interviewee refused to accept any advances while trying to maintain professionalism to retain her career. One day while working late, she decided to use one of her boss’s machines. The boss willingly sent her the login details, so that she could post her story. When she logged in, she found incriminating images of her boss with some other employees. She was tempted to use them to convince her employer to stop making advances at her. She knew the approach would give her a better chance to succeed in her job. However, she also knew that blackmail would be unethical and it would ruin her credibility.
Consequently, she decided to talk to her boss and tell her about what she had found. The boss was
