Challenges of Economic Environment Change
One of the primary challenges for Bob’s supermarket that is associated with economic environment changes is the stiff competition. With the diversity linked in the business world, many enterprises have embarked on various strategies in an attempt to promote their competitiveness in the marketplace. As a result, stiff competition has been witnessed in every line of business. Based on Bob’s supermarket case study, the stiff competition has been intensified by the large number of rivals such as Wal-Mart, Kroger and other grocery retail stores in the United States. Specifically, the introduction of supercenters by Wal-Mart in Hanover and Jefferson County was a major blow for the supermarket.
According to Frankenberger et al., (2013) seasonally in the demand for most grocery products by consumers are also another economic environment challenge to the business. This aspect of seasonal results in a cut off of the supermarket revenue generated from the sale of grocery goods. The fluctuation in the demand is highly attributed to the seasonally of these products such as apples, oranges, and pears. As a result, the business encounters a problem of retaining their customers due to its inability to provide all grocery products annually.
Challenges of Social Environment Change
The change of consumers’ taste and preferences regarding Bob’s supermarket products is one of the social environment challenges to the business. This problem is associated with the variety of goods offered by different firms (Frankenberger et al., 2013). As a result, most consumers are in the quench of new and modified commodities. Only, big companies can provide a variety of products that satisfy the needs and preferences of most consumers. Based on the capital capability of Bob’s supermarket the business is not able to provide different brands of products as compared to their competitors such as Wal-Mart and Kroger. This social environment challenge thus makes the supermarket incapable of retaining their clients in their area of operation.
Bob’s Supermarket SWOT Analysis. Based on the SWOT analysis of Bob supermarket its strengths include positive customer relationship. This aspect is enhanced by the deliveries the organization makes to its consumers at home or workplace. Besides, the supermarket strength is portrayed by the strong management team from the top leadership to the ordinary workers. For example, Bob Thompson as a corporate leader is a competent manager with an MBA degree who can facilitate the operation of the enterprise. Ayub et al., (2013) asserts that effective communication as strength of the supermarket is attributed to the adoption of technology. The weaknesses include low capital capacity as well as low research and development. Besides, lack of implementation of e-business has resulted in low sales. The main opportunities for the supermarket include expansion of the supermarket in various states and the adoption of the online business platform. Lastly, the threats of the supermarket include stiff competition from rivals such as Wal-Mart and Kroger. Seasonally in product demand and availability is another threat to the enterprise particularly the grocery products. Besides, change in consumers’ tastes and preferences are also another threat to the supermarket.
