Introduction
Courier services have become a crucial part of the economy today. This is not because they are necessarily an industry that produces a lot of revenue but due to the support they provide to other industries. In any government there are ministries or departments that play different roles towards the improvement of the world economy. Some ministries such as agriculture, trade and industrialization, fishing, and mining are producer ministries. This is by means of them being the ones producing revenue to be used by government. The ministry of health is a consumer ministry in most governments. However, the departments of education, energy and infrastructural development are often support ministries. By support ministries it means that their efforts help other ministries to function smoothly and therefore promote income generation despite not generating a lot of income themselves.
In the business world, some industries are exactly the same as in government structure. Some industries exist and survive by providing support to others. The courier service industry is one of these industries. This does not however imply that they are not profitable. As a matter of fact, it is the exact opposite since the because the role of supporting other industries makes it a crucial industry (Wesson, and Humphreys, 2013, p.56). This has seen to the establishment of numerous companies under this industry with some making it to be some of the world’s largest companies. Ever since the beginning of courier services, it has experienced many phases of growth with one of the most significant being globalization (Wesson, and Humphreys, 2013, p.56). Globalization is the process where a company acquires dealings internationally and therefore no longer restricted to the confines of one country.
