The role of engineers in the design and building of structures cannot be undermined. An engineer is trained to address issues that face human beings. Engineering is concerned with the invention of structures that assist human beings by making life easier. Owing to the importance of engineering designs and creations, failure must be avoided at all costs. In human history, flaws in building or design by engineers have led to an unprecedented loss of life. Engineering creations must be designed, built, or created to perfection to avoid the catastrophe that is attached to engineering flaws.
All engineering creations have an inherent risk attached. Failure of engineering projects results from a variety of factors, which include avoidable and unavoidable factors. Human error has been attributed to a majority of accidents that have occurred in the past. Human error can be accidental or resulting from ethical issues in the part of the design or implementing engineer. Design flaws can also lead to a failure of engineering projects. Also, the wrong use of materials for engineering projects can lead to the failure of engineering designs.
