Nursing sector has been facing various stereotypes from the public due to misconceptions created by the media. Therefore, the image of nursing is very essential to nurses in general practice because it helps them to evaluate on the previous concepts which is helping them to indulge in self-evaluation as way of improving the quality of patient care. This paper outlines the issue of the image of nursing as a way of encouraging the performance nd practices of nurses. Portray of Nursing Image on the Media. The mode of communication is evolving rapidly due to the advancements of communication channels such as televisions, radios magazines and newspapers. In light of this, collaboration and interaction between individuals has been largely enhanced enabling individuals to share opinions, ideas and information. Worth emphasizing, the use of stereotypes in the social media is a essential elements that should not be assumed. However, apart from this shortcoming, the mass media sector is playing significant roles in shaping the contemporary society. This paper explores the image of nursing profession in the media. Furthermore, it also outlines the impacts of the media towards the perception of this profession. Remarkably, these impacts expounds on how the media affects the image of nursing both positively and negatively (Koutoukidis et al 2013). For instance, the media portray nurses as physician’s compliant helpers who are sexually objectified. On the other hand, this depiction in the media is biased because it is failing to illustrate nurses’ responsibilities to the general public. To start, nurses are health care specialists equipped with nursing skills attained during their professional training period. Notably, their training is governed by standardized professional standards and practices. Despite of this training, the media perception of their roles to the members of the public is completely opposite. The media plays a very significant role in providing the public with all type of information across all fields. For this reason, the negative makeup on the image of nursing is affecting the people thinking capacity towards this professional. Previous medical shows and films by ER Grey undermine the roles of nurses because of its negative anatomy on the practice of nursing. This is evident from the show because it only focuses on the roles of physicians showing little roles of the nurses. Apart from physician dominating the show, it is also unquestionable that the credits that they are getting are generated by the nurses. Notably, public view on nursing values from this video is manipulated since the nurses characters in these shows are showing them engaging in unprofessional practices when relating with patients. Additionally, jobs duties and roles are undermined by the members of the public because of the misunderstandings the media is creating by failing to show the primary responsibilities and duties of the nurses on the media. For instance, when the media portrays nurses as physician helpers in televisions and newspapers, the public in general will undermine their role and compliments the role of the physicians. This incidence creates a lot of misconceptions since it is evident that people will not trust the people they have negative attitude about. However these prejudices are completely incorrect because in real sense nurses engage in providing direct patients care by solving the problems especially when the conditions of the patient is critical. Markedly, they also diagnoses, assesses and evaluates the progress of the patients unlike the doctor who just provide treatments only. Lastly, the media prejudice on the practices of nursing also manipulates the public attitude since from all medial activities and advertisements it is very rare in finding the nursing characters demonstrating compassion and clinical skills. Previous studies by (Kerr & McKinlay, 2014) alludes that the perspectives generated from the media activities on the image of nursing depicts the career unattractive which in returns turns the nursing profession invisible. This is because from various shows the roles of nurses monitoring the patients’ conditions and delivering optimum care is undermined. In achieving this, these staffs and leaders must portray modern professional standards in their practices as a way of ensuring that nursing objectives goals and objectives are attained. This paper outlines the grounds that these leaders must emphasize and practice in ensuring that the image of nursing is perceived in a more advanced way. As afore noted before, when nursing staff and leaders practice and ensure that every nursing requirement is properly practiced, uncountable benefits as well as professional goals are attained. This will assist in improving the healthcare sector in many ways. To start, this act aids in improving the patient care. Effort and teamwork demands for collaboration of healthcare specialist in providing a better patient care services. For this reason, good leadership which entails unifying these teams is enhancing a more improved care for patients. Greenfield et al (2015) allude that strong leaders in nursing profession are oriented on matters of improved patients care. This is because apart from setting instructions to their staffs and employees, they also engage themselves in monitoring the patient’s progress. Therefore, by coordinating all individual practices and enhancing accountability subject to the patient’s recovery progress is helping on improving the value of care that nurses are providing to patients. This practice has also geared efforts in ensuring that the approach to care of patients is enhanced. A conflict in the workplace is an inevitable circumstance in every organization irrespective of the leadership nature. In light of this, strong headship from nurse’s staff and leaders is the most effective tool for solving these conflicts. This will be achieved by preventing the chances that can hinder the well-being of the patients by ensuring that the victims involved are separated from working on the same department. Moreover, taking prompt acts as well as deep decisive plans will also assist in preventing the occurrence of these conflicts in future. In addition, leaders also direct the teams in identifying suitable concrete customs intended to create unity in working relations. Consequently, nursing career calls for a lot of commitments. Therefore, it is tiresome thus exposing individual to burnout and exhaustion. Some nurses may feel demoralized or suffer from stress. For this reason, strong leaders and staffs play a very pivotal tasks in ensuring that nurses stay are on the right track by stressing to them on the need of patients recovery commitments. This is assisting in empowering and building confidence levels.
