Myths about Quality of Online Education
Online education is becoming a common form of education among the United States scholars and the entire world as a whole. This has raised a greater debate among these scholars on the quality of education gained from this online education several myths and misconceptions a have been developed about the quality of this education. Therefore, it is important to distinguish these myths from reality. The article I am analyzing is separating these myths from reality
The first common myth is that online education is easy and simple. The truth is that online education, especially earning a degree online is not an easy task. Even though flexibility exist in this type of education since one has to choose his own time of learning, it also comes with challenges such as deadline problem and there is no one to remind them on the assignment. Sometimes it becomes difficult to interact act with other students for father explanation of a concept not understood by an online student. In my own opinion, this education is simple to some extent in that the student have a choice on how to operate and is not pushed to go to class to read at a specific tin=me.
The second myth of online education is that its quality is low. Due to lack of face to face interaction with the instructor, the student may find it difficult to grasp the concept by reading in his or her own way. The article says that in truth, sometimes, online education surpasses the traditional face to face interaction with the instructor. Since teachers have different ways of presenting concepts, it is not a guarantee that the student will understand better with a lecturer than when the student reads by himself.
To most institutions offering online education, the process of certification is always a thorough process and they ensure that all student certify all the requirement for him or her to earn a degree in a particular field through online. According to me, I don't see any serious difference between the online and face to face types of education in terms of quality, since they all depend on the policies put in place by the institutions which offer them.
There is also a myth that online courses are not accredited by the State education. The fact is that most online courses are accredited and students are always able to transfer credits. Depending on the institutions. But if a student attends an unaccredited program, transferring credits may not be possible. That does not only affect the online education program, but also the traditional face to face class interaction programs. This problem of accreditation is an issue which the student need to research on before registering for any degree program. It is may, therefore, be possible for a person to register for an online program which may not be accredited due to lack of information and far distance from the institution. This may put to the question of the quality and sincerity of online education.
Chances of cheating are too common in online education. That is a myth that deeply affected an online program. The fact is that online education can have cheating cases, but not as common as the traditional courses. There exist websites that students give on their assignments and they get it done for them. it is done by the students in both programs. I suspect that due to the fact that online students do not sit for a supervised examination, there may be a chance that they get their exams done to them by other people on these websites and that may affect the quality of online courses.
There is also a myth that employers do not employ employees who got their education through online programs. This is a common phenomenon due to the fear that their programs may not be genuine. But...
