Problem Identification
The problem, in this case, is poor ethical decision-making behaviors, work values, and poor attitude as exhibited by Julie. The problems can be solved by the ethical impact theory that emphasizes on institutionalizing ethics and demands great ethics-work climate. Despite having the opportunity to learn about this, her attitude does not allow her to concentrate and take note of the fundamental values of the company she worked for. Also, the issues of ethical conduct are discussed where Julie notices that being a single mother, the $24, 000 per annum she earns is not enough to sustain her family. After receiving a lateral move within the company in 2008, she begins to take engage in fraudulent activities where she could pay her daycare charges from fraudulent activities where she could forge false claims in the name of the daycare owner. Julie could charge corporate clients whose claims were rarely reviewed and were never served with reports of any claims made to their accounts. After repeating the conduct severally, she decides to leave in order to stop her behavior, but because she never learned in the first place about keeping the paperwork she forgot to document the claims, and this led her activities to be discovered and charged guilty.
The issues, in this case, are included Julie having a problem where she lacks an ethical behavior where she decides to indulge in fraudulent activities instead of following the right procedures and asking for a pay increment. Further, Julie’s social responsibility seems to be an issue because instead of her reporting any weaknesses in the company’s culture and system, which could easily earn her recognition and promotion, she takes advantage to defraud the company and their clients. This leads to another issue on her values and priorities at work.
